Getting Started - PookyEvent

Last Updated: July 28, 2026

Welcome to PookyEvent! This guide walks you through the initial setup of the Discord bot on your server — from inviting the bot to preparing a channel for event creation.

Once you have completed these steps, you can create and manage events via the Web UI (documented separately).

1. Invite the Bot

Click the invite link to add PookyEvent to your Discord server:

📥 Install PookyEvent

You need the Manage Server permission on the target server to invite the bot.

After the bot joins, wait a moment for it to come online. You can verify it is ready by typing /pookywiki in any channel — the bot should reply with the documentation link.

Tip: All PookyEvent slash commands start with /pooky. After typing / in a channel, the available commands will appear in Discord's autocomplete list.

2. Register Yourself

Before you can manage events, your Discord user must be registered in the PookyEvent database.

Run the following command in any channel:

/pookyme

The bot will reply with:

  • pooky added if you are a new user
  • pooky updated if you were already registered
  • If you have Administrator permissions on the server, you will automatically become Event Master (shown as „pooky added as Event Master.“)

This command also creates or updates the server (guild) record in the database.

3. Register the Guild (Optional)

If /pookyme did not register your server, or if you need to repair the guild record, run:

/pookyguild

This command:

  • Creates or updates the server in the database
  • Registers you as a user (same as /pookyme)
  • Promotes you to Event Master if you have Administrator permissions
  • Syncs the bot's slash commands for the server

4. Check a Channel

Before adding a channel, you can run a dry-run check to see if everything is ready:

/pookychannelcheck

The bot will report:

  • ✅ Whether you are registered
  • ✅ Whether you are Event Master of this server
  • ✅ Whether the guild is registered in the database
  • ✅ Whether the channel is already registered
  • ✅ Whether the bot has the required permissions (View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links)

Use this command in the channel you intend to use for events. It is safe — it does not make any changes.

5. Add a Channel

Once you have verified the channel is ready, register it so PookyEvent can post events there:

/pookychannel

Run this command in the channel you want to use for events.

Requirements:

  • You must be registered (/pookyme)
  • You must be Event Master of the server
  • The guild must be registered (/pookyguild)
  • The bot must have View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links permissions in that channel

If permissions are missing, the bot will warn you. Grant the missing permissions via your Discord server settings and run /pookychannel again.

Tip: Create a dedicated channel (e.g. #pooky-events) for event management to keep things organised.

6. Remove a Channel

To unregister a channel, run this command in the channel you want to remove:

/unpookychannel

7. Create Events

Now that a channel is set up, you have two ways to create events:

Open the Web UI in your browser:

/pookyweb

The link takes you to the PookyEvent admin dashboard where you can create, edit, and manage events visually.

The Web UI has its own documentation — see the PookyEvent Wiki for details.

7.2 Quick Repeat from Discord

If you already have an existing event in the channel and want to repeat it with a new date, use:

/pookyeventrepeat [next: week|day|today]

Parameters:

  • week (default) — Adds 7 days to the original event date
  • day — Adds 1 day to the original event date
  • today — Uses today's date with the original event time

This command copies the last event posted in the current channel, preserving all roles and settings.
